Barack Obama struck what I thought to be a poignant note in speaking to a black church in New Orleans Sunday as he rolled out his proposal, aptly diaried by brooklynbadboyhere at Daily Kos.
The church, First Emanuel Baptist, had been featured on the site of the ABC show "Extreme Makeover".
The idea that Washington needs an extreme makeover is, in my opinion, a perfect frame to be used in the rest of the campaign.
Can we afford to just make a small change? Can we afford to just put a bandage over the gaping wound the Bush administration has created? I would argue not. I would say that we are rapidly approaching the moment where our entire political process needs to be thrown out so that we can have not just a restoration of the Pre-Bush status quo ante, but an entirely new era in politics. An era where power is returned to the people, where pragmatism rooted in American values like generosity and community replace a broken system that merely benefits those who can afford to participate in it.
Its not time for a small change, its time for an Extreme Makeover in Washington.
